HEALTH AND SAFETY

SPI values the Health, Safety and Well Being of our employees, contractors, clients, stakeholders and the community at large. We are committed to upholding a safe and healthy work environment on every project. SPI's goal is zero harm to people. We continually build on our culture of safety by investing in our people and improving our processes. We are committed to promoting a safe and healthy work environment from the board room to the job site and everywhere in between.

HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

SPI is committed to the protection and maintenance of our employees’ health, safety, psychological and social well being. We acknowledge that Workers have the right to a safe and healthy workplace. We will promote continuous improvement of our management systems, consistent with recognized standards and industry best practice. Our goal at SPI is to promote safe work behaviors by encouraging continuous pro-active identification and mitigation of workplace hazards. It is our aim that no harm shall come to our people or the public and that our operations comply with all applicable health and safety legislation. If there is a conflict between SPI policy, procedure or practice and the legislation, the higher standard shall prevail.

SPI Senior Management has the responsibility and accountability to establish and maintain comprehensive health and safety systems. SPI Management will continually assess health and safety performance and act to continuously improve performance. SPI Middle Management will provide proactive positive communication, instruction, training, and supervision necessary for employees and contractors to fulfil their health and safety obligations. SPI Management will work in collaboration with employees and contractors to promote a safe and healthy working environment.

Supervisors have the responsibility and accountability to ensure the health and safety of all employees and contractors under their supervision and that all workers are adequately trained and instructed to carry out their assigned work safely. Supervisors will ensure workers are aware of all known or reasonably foreseeable hazards and promote awareness of company policy and procedures. Supervisors will enforce compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation and assist in the control of workplace hazards. Supervisors will ensure that routine inspections of the workplace are conducted and that all unsafe working conditions or practices observed are corrected without undue delay. Supervisors shall work in cooperation with Joint Health and Safety Committee to promote ongoing improvement of health and safety performance.

Employees and Contractors have the responsibility and accountability to identify hazards and to make every reasonable effort to mitigate those hazards to ensure a safe, healthy, and productive workplace. Employees and Contractors are required to work in accordance with established SPI policies, practices, and procedures. Employees and Contractors are required to be fit for duty and not engage in behaviours that risk the health and safety of themselves or their coworkers.

Everyone has the responsibility and accountability to report all incidents, regardless of severity, all unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices and to promote and encourage safe behaviours. At SPI we will all work cooperatively toward the prevention of all incidents.
